Archeological Sites in Kayangan Api

The team of researchers from the University of Indonesia, led by Dr. Ali Akbar finds an ancient site in the southern city of Bojonegoro, precisely in kecapatan Ngasem, around Heaven Fire in December last.

A team of five people asked Head of Culture and Tourism, to conduct archaeological research in Kayangan Fire. "There are allegations of eternal fire tourist attraction has been known since ancient times that," said Dr. Ali explained the background research.

Before starting excavation, the team conducted interviews with the caretaker to obtain a picture of Heaven Fire beginning of the study sites at once knows the oral tradition that developed in the local community. "Basically, the oral tradition which can be sorted in a critical benchmark in conducting archaeological research," wrote Dr. Ali in his report.

Based on research, which so far has opened the site as long as 10 meters, can be taken some tentative conclusions as follows.

The building, located on the east eternal flame likely to reach the size of 40 x 40 meters. The height of this building was not yet known because the depth of 50 centimeters, there are still layers of brick, but the water had flooded the surface of the dig box. Building height not yet known, but is expected before the body and roof of the building there. Building materials are rocks under geological map sheets Bojonegoro listed on this site.

People who live on this site is a group of suspected or receipt hermit who retreated to get closer to the Almighty. The main point of worship associated with the eternal flame. In Hindu mythology, the god known as the Fire God Agni or located in the southeast of the wind. Religious concepts like this are relatively rare in Java.

This site seems to be used by communities around the end of the Majapahit or around the year 1400-1500. The shape and size of bricks and broken pottery findings reinforce these allegations. However, the concept of worship of natural forces such as mountains, seas, and superbly fire there since prehistoric times. Thus, there is a possibility of this site is much older age.

In the vicinity of buildings that have been unearthed there are several sites that allegedly used the building. The orientation of the buildings were allegedly leads to eternal fire. Thus the Fire of Heaven site consists of several buildings joined in a complex.

Research has not reached to the reconstruction, and required a gradual process to get there. But Dr. Ali said, the glass eyes of this ancient experts come on a great discovery. The next step is to survey and conduct orientation and surface data recording using a compass, meter, and GPS. Locations surveyed were within 200 meters of eternal fire. Then, researchers began to dig into the southeast.

Residents around quite surprised with this discovery. "So far they only attract till Majapahit history alone, there are even people in Bojonegoro who until now felt themselves the descendants of Majapahit," the story of Ali.

Fire rating is a tourist attraction in Bojonegoro mainstay. Eternal flame has a width of 4 feet and always on. The fire originated from Cepu oil content. "Although the administrative boundaries Bojonegoro not included in the Cepu block in Blora, Central Java, but a geological map, yes. Because in the underground, oil (can) extends down to the Bojonegoro," thus described by Dr. Ali.

Local legend says that wherever there is eternal fire, there is no place making kris. But Dr. Ali brushed it off, "a kind of legend was too difficult to prove."

This UI research involving people with a conscious purpose for society also helped preserve and maintain sites that are found.
