Beauty of Tambora in the Morning

The journey to Mount Tambora, not a conversation until we were about to cross to the island of Sumbawa. Get the news from a friend, they were using an expedition to Mount Tambora 2 cars. Whether out of curiosity or simply whim, the two men who drove the car I was intrigued to follow the group, while viewing the field in route to Mount Tambora. Apparently they both have never been to Mount Tambora. And as the two offroader who are adventurous, an invitation to try out this new route is unlikely to be rejected.

Decades passed, yet to remove the awesomeness Tambora eruption in 1815. The stones were scattered large to small, visible along the meadow on our way to Tambora. Built as a car shock strong enough due to begin bumpy road, indicating we have gone far enough from the last town before the turn toward the northbound lane to Mount Tambora.

The longer the little house we passed, until finally only the views of the sea on the left and the expanse of savannah on the right road. As has become typical of the island of Sumbawa own, horse entourage often seen, and free running in a meadow. Occasionally too, there are hordes of buffalo with a baby buffalo albinonya pass road, heading for the mud under the shade trees near the beach.

The trip across the prairie

Once in Heading 1, the car should turn off the main road across the meadow. While continuing to try to contact the group Friends of my father who had already been set out, we started our first off road trip in Sumbawa. To compare previous bad asphalt road that we passed, I feel much more comfortable when the car is running on this prairie. Although seems a lot of rock strewn meadow, but the journey is more subtle and not volatile like when on the main road.

Some times there are one or two birds fly across the front of our car. And I expect there are a bunch of horses who were grazing during our path in the meadow. The more up to the altitude, the vegetation was more change. That was only ankle-high grass, turned into waist-high weeds. But the terrain that we travel, not too mean, until we find a point where we passed the road that must be very narrow, and on our left is a ravine on the right while the car is a hole deep enough due to landslides.

If we were stuck in the hole, actually could have come out, given our 4x4 vehicles. However, it takes help from another car to pull, and in fact it does not exist because we were only one car at the time. Fortunately, no need to doubt the ability of my dad and his friend in her off-road fun, we passed a field that easily. Travel increasingly uphill and slightly curved. It's no longer a flat prairie like a few minutes earlier. Occasional passing car as high as hedge shrubs and sharp bends, as well as a dirt road that seems certainly difficult to pass if it rains, we finally arrived at postal 2 Mount Tambora promptly at 3 pm.

Seeing a sign that write, heading 3 Mount Tambora is only 15 km away again, time to make my dad and his friend was intrigued to continue the journey. But given the terrain we would certainly pass a lot worse than before, plus have started late afternoon, they changed their mind and choose to camp just in Post 2.

Although I often tease my dad who like to climb mountains to continue the journey, but he still chose not to continue. When we arrived at Post 2, the peak of Mount Tambora was not visible due to thick fog. But the scenery of green meadows we passed earlier, three small hills below, and also sea with the island of Sumbawa Moyo on the other side, can be seen from above the car.

Camping car roof

Actually there is a purpose why I continue to follow this road trip. Namely want to try a new tent on the car that my dad installed, specifically for this trip. Yeah, right. Tent on the roof of the car. I am very curious how the shape of a tent on the car and most importantly, what not dropped when sleeping on the roof? And finally I can be the first to try tent on this car.

Cooking equipment are removed from the back door, my father with his friend began to open the tent. And all the camping gear for our impromptu ready before darkness fell. Once satisfied several times to capture these legendary tent with sunset background and the mountain, we were getting ready to make dinner.

Although only a potluck dinner, but it was fun while accompanied by the insects that gather for night lights, and the view from the distance below, the lights that may come from a fishing boat, or settlements in other parts across the island of Sumbawa. Had the rain for a while, but immediately re-sunny skies and was on a mountain like a dark, star-strewn sky above.

Although not yet too late at night, but both drivers reliable enough sleep we need to continue the journey tomorrow. The air gets colder, also makes us want to immediately break and enter the tent. My father's friend chose to sleep in the car, while me and my dad sleeping on the tent. Mat which turned out to be our base, is quite soft and make me sleep quite soundly. Time to wake up once in a while due to the cold, sleeping bag to be very useful at the time. Whereas before I thought, do not be too cold at night.

Tambora in the morning

The sound of birds is heard, and the activity outside my friend's father, a sign that the morning is near. Sure enough when I came out of the tent, the sun has not yet emerged from behind the mountains but the sky looks very bright. This time, the peak of Mount Tambora was very clear, and also views across the sea and islands from a distance. While waiting for water to boil, once again we take photos of Mount Tambora which are now no longer shrouded in fog. Hot tea and toast with our corned beef grilled on a frying pan, into a very tasty breakfast, plus the atmosphere of Mount Tambora in the morning. Every now and then also heard the sound of distant partridge who come to greet us.

The sun is getting higher, and the signs of my father's group of friends have also emerged. In accordance with the targets that have been made, we finally chose to start the only way home. Tent in the clean up, as well as cooking equipment, and others. Our adventure finally ended already tried Tambora.

Although not up to the last post, I think both our reliable driver good enough to dare to Post 2, with no other vehicles accompanying. Next time we will definitely return to Mount Tambora and reached its peak. Obviously with the preparation of a more mature, not just one night before the impromptu plan.
