To publicize the Flower Parade, the government of Tomohon held a promotional campaign along Kuta Beach on Bali on
24 July to attract foreign tourists who daily flock to Bali , in
particular to this popular beach, to also visit Tomohon as another
attractive Indonesian destination.
This biannual event which was started in 2008 has gained plenty of popularity since.
The town of Tomohon is a cool mountain
resort covering 35 villages and 5 sub-districts. Because of its
refreshing and cool climate, houses along the road are seen decorated
with pretty and colorful flowers. Tomohon is also the center for
Christian religious learning.
When in Tomohon do visit its traditional
market which offers a wide variety of flowers, vegetables and
meats. As for food, North Sulawesi is famous for its mouth-watering
food, so there are many restaurants here to choose from. But Muslims do
beware, though, as the population here is mostly Christian, many
restaurants serve pork.
To get to Tomohon, there are plenty of
taxis and public transportation that ply between Manado and
Tomohon. Daily flights serve Manado from Jakarta, Bali and other main cities.
